This is the Summer of '20.  This is also the first Pandemic in 100 years.  We are ordered by the government to social distance.  I suppose many of my paintings will have inspiring elements such as this girl sitting on the beach six feet away from the guy to her right (and probably another to her left).  Just imagine.

For some reason, when San Diego temperatures hit anything higher than 70, the local news teams declare "heat wave."  Beaches expect 90* and inland are braced for 100*.

My advise: buy a chair and stick your feet in the ocean.

Original.  Beach portrait !  The Hotel Del on Coronado Island in San Diego CA is a very popular destination, which was the backdrop in this portrait (grin).  Marilyn Monroe filmed "Some Like It Hot" with two other guys (grin again).  Plenty of sun is a good excuse for sunglasses but if you know me, I like to paint sunglasses.  This was an easy one.

Original.  For me, the shadowed form of bathing beauties in summers canvas wooden chairs has turned into a popular theme.  I've pulled in a few elements from my personal life.  I have always tanned in the canvas beach chair but they are now found mostly in the EU, which is where I saw them again in Central London public parks, in the middle of the city.  You won't see the canvas chairs on a California beach.  But the sky is California.  The sea is Caribbean green.  The sand is Florida sugar sand.  The occupants are the beach boys ...

Original. This painting was done to surprise daddy for Father's Day.  Mom and Dad had been walking past my studio window for a while, admiring the ocean landscapes, commenting " ... someday we need to have one of these paintings ...".  So Mom walked into my studio last week with adorable 12 month old and we chatted about what sort of painting could be ready in time for  Fathers Day.  This is what I came up with.  She was so happy she presented the Fathers Day gift 4 days early.  Always a good sign !  Thanks, Shannon

Original.  If I am lucky enough to leave the studio before the sun sets, I can catch the crowd that is headed out for a a good ending to their day.  Where we live is at streets end but it has a stairway to the beach and is very popular with the surfers.  I have used creative license with this woman's gear.  Everybody, and I do mean everybody, wears an unimaginative black wetsuit. Good for cold water surfers.  Bad for my collectors who appreciate a pretty girl.  As a side note, Jack O'Neill pioneered the wetsuit, which became wildly popular in the 80s.  He passed away June 2017 at the age of 94.  Aloha.
