APACHE BRAVE

Apache Brave
Original
Charcoal on paper
17" x 11"
Price $125
©Nancy Tokos Fine Art All Rights Reserved 2013

Original. Charcoal pencil on Strathmore paper.  Inspiration for this stunning North American Indian drawing was from the brilliant 20th century photographer, Edward Curtis.  The tribes were a vanishing race so with the help of a $75K grant from J.P. Morgan, Curtis photographed the tribes and amassed a huge library of their photos immortalizing this culture.  This particular man, De Gizzeh-Rolling, was photographed in 1906 by Curtis.  It was taken after the American government put him on the Reservation.  The look of pride remains but most likely, resignation.  If you are a collector of Southwest Art, this is for you !  Framed and wired and ready to hang in your living room.  I ship with the assurance of FEDEX.

5 FEATHERS

"5 Feathers"
Original
Charcoal on 400 lb. Bristol Board
Price $195
©Nancy Tokos 2014

Original.  This is an interesting technique.  I paint with charcoal powder.  Start with a big brush and mix it with water then block in the shapes.  Some brush strokes remain and others are moved around, or taken away then a charcoal pencil defines and refines.  Signed.  Sprayed with a fixative.   Buy Now and it will be shipped anywhere in continental U.S. or Canada, framed & ready to hang in your favorite room. Or visit my Fine Arts Gallery & Studio in San Diego to save the $30 shipping fee. If you do not see what you need, be sure to contact us for a custom painting.  Framed painting shipped within 2-3 business days of purchase.

War Painted

"War Painted"

Price $195

Original.  This is an interesting technique.  I paint with charcoal powder.  Start with a big brush and mix it with water then block in the shapes.  Some brush strokes remain and others are moved around, or taken away then a charcoal pencil defines and refines.  Signed.  Sprayed with a fixative.  The lineness is Wes Studi, a magnificent Native American.  Studi is a full-blooded Cherokee actor from Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma near Tahlequah, and has won critical acclaim for his portrayal of Native Americans in film.  This particular inspiration is from one of my favorite films, "Dances With Wolves." My story continues as a few months ago, PORTRAITS 4 ALL Fine Arts Studio & Gallery had a show featuring Native Americans.  Apparently the word was out as Native Americans came around to see the show.  Imagine my surprise when a look-alike to Wes Studi walked through the door !  This is a clear favorite of mine but the story goes with the painting and would look lovely in your Library or Living Room.
