Original. We live minutes from the beach so I would be quite crazy not to walk the beach as often as possible. I take pictures with my little Canon Elph. I'm sure if I ever read the instruction booklet, the camera would do amazing things. But for now, it's great reference for future paintings. What my other camera has not done, is accurately captured the lovely orange highlites on the breasts of the birds. They were very amusing, ambitiously pecking everything small that moved and then running from the water as it washed under their feet, or their three clawed toes. Whatever they are called ...

Original. We bought a Starbucks and drove over to WindanSea, which is a staggering beautiful beach (basically cliffs) popular with surfers and ... snowy egrets. The king waves were happening, wind was pretty high. There were two of these birds posing on the cliffs. Understand, my husband wanted to go for a walk with me and that was the purpose of this morning diversion. I always bring my camera which will probably be my un-doing, but the wind was catching the wispy feathers of these Egrets, I ignored my husband! About 200 photographs later ...

Original. This is a Snowy Egret and they are very busy on the beach in the morning. Along with the sandpipers ! And the seagulls and pelicans. Catching one of them in -flight was a real moment. The sun's back lighting dictated the simplicity of this canvas.

Original. We raised a feral kitty whom we originally believed to be an ordinary tiger variety. However, a neighbor told us it could be an Egyptian Mau because of the spots on her tummy. She was strictly an outdoor visitor. In exchange for the free food and often overnight accommodations, she'd sit for this paparazzi; safely snoozing in the rafters or strike a confident "thanks for the free lunch" !

Original. This was a rare sighting of a pelican perched on the seawall at La Jolla Shores beach. Now a bit of Wikipedia reading tells me this Pacific Ocean variety is the brown species estimated to be over 3 million years old. We always see them overhead in that tatical chevron ! However, this attitude makes me think he was the lead when flying formation.
